Research Interests

My research focuses on how cis and trans chromosomal interactions affect gene regulation and chromatin structure. My research will examine how such interactions affect chromatin structure. Additionally, pairing of maternal and paternal homologous chromsomes in Drosophila allows for a process called transvection, whereby expression of a gene is sensitive to the proximity of its homologue. Two types of transvection have been determined to occur at the yellow locus, enhancer action in trans and insulator bypass in cis. My studies will address the molecular mechanism mediating insulator bypass in cis. Lastly, my research will examine the dynamics of enhancer-promoter communication in cis and trans.
