DNAStar Lasergene 7.2 is available for the Genetics Users


The Department of Genetics has 19 concurrent licenses for DNAStar Lasergene.

You need to install a copy of DNAStar Lasergene 7.2 that incorporates the HMS Genetics license to use the software. DNAStar will not work properly without the license.

The Genetics Department's shared license for DNAStar only works while you are connected to the Genetics License Server, meter.med.harvard.edu. DNAStar programs should connect automatically to meter from any computer in NRB - whether it's on the HMS or the Brigham network.

In order to use DNAStar Lasergene from off campus, you must have a VPN connection to the HMS network before you start DNAStar.

If you are having problems running DNAStar, please email the Computer Facility at support@genetics.med.harvard.edu.

7.1 Notes: 

  DNAStar has added default feature markings for maps constructed in SeqBuilder 7.  
  These settings will not affect any feature markings on maps created with SeqBuilder 6.1.  
  See instructions for customizing feature layouts in DNAStar 7.1 to change the default settings.

  Lasergene 7.2.2 is fully compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
